Within the DOC (Denominazione d’Origine Controllata) zone, smaller areas called subzones may be identified whose special site climates or soil types yield grapes of outstanding quality. Wines from these territories are safeguarded by law under particularly severe production regulations designed to ensure the highest level of quality. In the Colli Orientali del Friuli DOC zone, subzones have been identified at Rosazzo, Cialla and Ramandolo.
